Title 42 › Chapter 9— HOUSING OF PERSONS ENGAGED IN NATIONAL DEFENSE › Subchapter VII— DISPOSAL OF WAR AND VETERANS’ HOUSING › § 1590
Defines key words used in this part of the law. Governing body of the municipality or county means the local government (city, village, or other municipality) that has general authority where the housing is; if the housing is not in a municipality, it means the county or parish government, and in the District of Columbia it means the D.C. Council. Housing means any HUD-controlled housing (including trailers and mobile homes) built, bought, or provided under subchapters II–VII, Public Law 781 (Sept. 9, 1940), Public Laws 9, 73, or 353 (March 1, 1941; May 24, 1941; Dec. 17, 1941), or other law, and also includes dwellings plus related buildings and property. Temporary housing means housing HUD has declared temporary under subchapters II–VII and also includes that housing after rights to it are given up or transferred under this subchapter or section 1575. Veteran and serviceman use the same meanings they have in the United States Housing Act of 1937. State means any State, Territory, dependency, possession of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Going Federal rate of interest means the “going Federal rate” as defined in the United States Housing Act of 1937. United States Housing Act of 1937 refers to that Act and all its amendments except the parts about initial construction of projects or dwelling units.
