§16106 Ultra-efficient Engine Technology for Aircraft

Summary

The Secretary must make a cooperative agreement with NASA to develop ultra‑efficient aircraft engines. The program must aim for at least a 10% fuel efficiency improvement, a 70% cut in how much takeoff and landing nitrogen oxides harm local air quality, and research into advanced designs, alternative propulsion and power setups (including hybrid fuel‑cell systems) and the use of alternative fuels in turbine systems. Congress may provide $50,000,000 for each of the fiscal years 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010 to carry out this work.
