§16323 Science and Engineering Education Pilot Program

Summary

The Secretary must give a grant to a Southeastern United States group of major research universities that already work with National Laboratories. The grant will create a regional pilot of the SEEK–16 program to improve STEM literacy, creativity, and decision-making. The group must include leading research universities, at least one university that trains many elementary and secondary teachers, and National Laboratories where appropriate. The pilot will build stronger partnerships among research universities, teacher-training schools, and the private sector; work with one or more NASA Educator Resource Centers and Department expertise; let current and future teachers join research at National Laboratories and research universities and turn what they learn into classroom lessons; create coursework; measure progress; and make ways to share what works with other places. The grant is an authorized activity under section 7381b.
