Title 42 › Chapter 13— SCHOOL LUNCH PROGRAMS › § 1755a
Requires the Secretary to buy whole grains and whole grain products, in addition to the regular commodities delivered under section 6 of the Richard B. Russell National School Lunch Act, for use in the school lunch program under that Act and the school breakfast program under section 1773. The goal is to raise awareness and interest in the number and variety of whole grain products for schoolchildren, following the 2005 Dietary Guidelines for Americans. "Whole grains" and "whole grain products" mean what the Food and Nutrition Service uses in the HealthierUS School Challenge. By September 30, 2011, the Secretary must evaluate these efforts. The evaluation must look at whether students ate more whole grains, which whole grains worked best in the lunch and breakfast programs, the Secretary’s recommendations for adding whole grains to those programs, and any other results the Secretary finds appropriate. After finishing the evaluation, the Secretary must send a report to the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry and the House Committee on Education and Labor.
