Title 42 › Chapter 156— HEALTH INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY › Subchapter I— APPLICATION AND USE OF ADOPTED HEALTH INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY STANDARDS; REPORTS › § 17903
The Secretary of Health and Human Services must send a report to the relevant House and Senate committees no later than 2 years after February 17, 2009, and then every year after that. That report must say what the government and private groups have done to help create a nationwide electronic health information system, list the problems slowing its use, and give ideas to finish putting the system in place. The Secretary must also do, or hire someone to do, two studies and send reports on them within 2 years after February 17, 2009. One study looks at ways to create better payment incentives to improve care at Federally qualified health centers, rural health clinics, and free clinics. The other studies how new aging services technology can help seniors, people with disabilities, and their caregivers. That study must cover how to find useful current and future technology, how to encourage business and academic innovation, what other countries are doing, and what stops innovation and adoption and how to fix those problems. Definitions: Aging services technology — health technology for seniors, people with disabilities, and their caregivers. Senior — meaning as set by the Secretary.
