Title 42 › Chapter 157— QUALITY, AFFORDABLE HEALTH CARE FOR ALL AMERICANS › Subchapter VI— MISCELLANEOUS PROVISIONS › § 18113
Stops the federal government, and any state or local government that gets federal money, and health plans under the law from punishing a person or a health-care entity for refusing to provide assisted suicide, euthanasia, or mercy killing. Health-care entities include doctors, hospitals, HMOs, insurance plans, and similar providers. Does not change rules about stopping medical treatment or food and water, abortion, or giving medicine to relieve pain (even if that may raise the risk of death) as long as it is not given to cause death. Complaints go to the HHS Office for Civil Rights.
