Title 42 › CHAPTER 16 — NATIONAL SCIENCE FOUNDATION › § 1862n–10
The Director can create a new grant program to give competitive, merit-based awards to Hispanic-serving, Alaska Native-serving, Native Hawaiian-serving, and other colleges that enroll many minority students. The goal is to improve undergraduate science, math, and engineering education and to help more students finish associate’s or bachelor’s degrees in science, math, engineering, or technology. Grants may pay for course and curriculum upgrades, faculty training, research stipends for undergraduates, and other related activities the Director approves. The program must be coordinated with, and add to, the existing Historically Black Colleges and Universities Undergraduate Program and the Tribal Colleges and Universities Program. Grants may also buy lab equipment (instrumentation).
