Title 42 › Chapter 16— NATIONAL SCIENCE FOUNDATION › § 1862n–10
The Director can create a new competitive, merit-reviewed grant program for Hispanic-serving, Alaska Native-serving, Native Hawaiian-serving, and other colleges that serve many minority students. The goal is to improve undergraduate science, math, engineering, and technology education and raise retention and graduation rates for students working on associate’s or baccalaureate degrees. Grants may pay to improve STEM courses and curriculum, support faculty development, give stipends to undergraduates doing research, and fund other activities the Director approves. The program must work with and be in addition to the existing Historically Black Colleges and Universities Undergraduate Program and the Tribal Colleges and Universities Program. Funding can also be used to buy instruments for this program and for those two programs.
