Title 42 › Chapter 16— NATIONAL SCIENCE FOUNDATION › § 1862v
The NSF Director must, working with the NIH and NIMH Directors and following research priorities, award competitive grants to colleges, universities, or groups of them—if money is available—to fund basic, multidisciplinary research that could help understand, prevent, or treat suicide. Research can cover five areas: social behavior; brain and cognition; human development; perception, movement, and cognition; and drug and alcohol abuse. The NSF must also encourage early-career applicants, including doctoral students and postdocs.
