§1870a Buy-american Requirements

Summary

The Director must try, as much as possible and where the law allows, to give contracts for goods and services used directly by the Foundation to U.S.-based companies. As soon as possible after October 31, 1988, the Director must make a report about fiscal year 1988 that shows how many Foundation contracts went to foreign firms and to domestic firms, how many foreign awards had a technically acceptable bid from a U.S. firm, and what steps the Foundation will take to increase awards to U.S. firms. That report must be sent to the Committee on Science, Space, and Technology of the House of Representatives and to the Senate Committees on Labor and Human Resources and on Commerce, Science, and Transportation. Domestic firm — a business organized under U.S. federal, state, district, commonwealth, territory, or possession law that does business in the United States. Foreign firm — any business that is not a domestic firm.
