Summary

The Director must work with the Secretary of Energy, the Director of NIST, and other federal research agency leaders to carry out the Directorate’s work. The Director must, as much as possible, make sure that work does not repeat projects already supported by other parts of the Foundation or other agencies. The Director must coordinate with the interagency working group under part D of subchapter VI and other agency heads so efforts add value, avoid unnecessary duplication, and use public funds responsibly. After the Secretary of Commerce finishes the emerging-technology studies required by title XV of division FF of the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2021 (Public Law 116–260), the Director must consider those study results when planning the Directorate’s activities.
