Title 42 › Chapter 21— CIVIL RIGHTS › Subchapter I— GENERALLY › § 1989
District courts must add more U.S. magistrate judges when needed so people charged with the crimes listed in section 1987 can be arrested and brought before a judge quickly and conveniently. Those magistrate judges must use the same powers and duties for those crimes that they use for other federal offenses. Each magistrate judge can put in writing one or more suitable people in their county to carry out warrants and other court orders. Those people can call on nearby citizens, U.S. land or naval forces, or the militia to help. Warrants issued this way can be served anywhere in the State or Territory where they were issued.
