§2000g–2 Cooperation with Other Agencies; Conciliation Assistance in Confidence and Without Publicity; Information as Confidential; Restriction on Performance of Investigative or Prosecuting Functions; Violations and Penalties

Summary

The Service must, when it can, work with the right state, local, public, or private agencies while doing its work. Help the Service gives to settle disputes must be kept private. Information learned while doing that work must stay confidential. A staff member who helped with a dispute may not later act as the investigator or prosecutor in a court case about that same dispute. If a staff member makes confidential information public, they can be charged with a misdemeanor and face a fine up to $1,000 or up to one year in jail.
