The Commission may create and join programs with colleges and universities, including Hispanic-serving institutions, historically Black colleges or universities, and Tribal colleges. These programs can support research, mentoring, teaching, and training. They must help schools train and educate students (including current or possible future Commission employees) and help the schools do research in science, engineering, law, or other fields the Commission thinks are important. Hispanic-serving institution — meaning given in 20 U.S.C. 1101a(a). Historically Black college or university — meaning given in 20 U.S.C. 1061. Tribal college — meaning given in 25 U.S.C. 1801(a).
