Title 42 › Chapter 23— DEVELOPMENT AND CONTROL OF ATOMIC ENERGY › Subchapter XVII— ENFORCEMENT OF CHAPTER › § 2282
The Commission can fine a person up to $100,000 for breaking certain licensing, certification, or other listed rules in the law. If the wrong continues, each day counts as a separate violation. The Commission may lower, settle, or cancel those fines. Before charging a fine, the Commission must send a written notice by registered or certified mail to the person’s last known address. The notice must say the date, facts, and nature of the problem, name the rule or license involved, and show the proposed fine amount. The person gets a chance to explain in writing within a reasonable time set by the Commission. If the fine is not paid, the Attorney General can sue to collect it and has the exclusive power to settle, reduce, or cancel fines sent to them for collection.
