Defines key words used in sections 242q to 242q–5. "Aging research" means studying the aging process and studying how to diagnose or treat age‑related illnesses and problems, including menopause, and studying treatments, devices, or other medical ways that help people avoid nursing homes or long hospital stays and stay independent. "Independence" means being able to do daily self‑care and everyday tasks without help. "Secretary" means the Secretary of Health and Human Services. "Task Force" means the Task Force on Aging Research set up under section 242q(a).
