Summary

The Secretary, working with the NIH Director, may expand and coordinate NIH research on cardiomyopathy. That work can look at what causes cardiomyopathy (including genes and molecular markers), long-term health outcomes for all ages, and studies that follow people over time or use past data to find effective treatments. The Secretary must avoid needless overlap with other HHS offices and must send Congress, within 18 months after December 23, 2024, a report describing current NIH research and listing a research agenda for adults, plans for children, and the biggest research needs. Cardiomyopathy is defined elsewhere in the law.
