The Secretary of Health and Human Services, using the Maternal and Child Health Bureau and the Indian Health Service and working with the National Institutes of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, must fund and support community research on the causes, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of children’s oral, dental, and craniofacial problems in high‑risk groups, test preventive efforts like nutrition, parenting, and feeding, and create clinical methods to assess a child’s risk for dental disease. Care and treatment under this work must be given by licensed dental professionals who follow State practice and licensing laws. Money as needed was authorized for fiscal years 2001 through 2005.
