HHS, through the CDC, must set up a system to watch and collect data on juvenile diabetes and keep a national database of that information. HHS must run a national effort on type 2 diabetes in youth to improve tracking and research, spot misdiagnoses as type 1, and improve lab tests and noninvasive glucose monitors. Money is authorized as needed for fiscal years 2001 through 2005.
