Title 42 › Chapter 6A— PUBLIC HEALTH SERVICE › Subchapter II— GENERAL POWERS AND DUTIES › Part H— Organ Transplants › § 274f–3
The Secretary must have the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality create scientific studies to help increase organ donation and to make organ recovery, storage, and transport better. That work must test whether changes or new technologies make donation work better, review scientific studies so medical groups keep their guidelines up to date, make the evidence easy for organ recovery staff to use, and work with professional groups and the Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network to develop and spread proven practices. The law also funds work to build a common clinical vocabulary for organ recovery, use information technology to support organ procurement groups, train staff in quality improvement, and evaluate specific recovery, preservation, and transport technologies. It authorized $2,000,000 for fiscal year 2005 and such sums as needed for fiscal years 2006 through 2009.
