§280k–1 Research-based Dental Caries Disease Management

Summary

The Secretary, through the CDC Director, must give demonstration grants to groups to test research-based ways to prevent and manage tooth decay. To qualify, a group must be a community or health care provider (for example, a Federally‑qualified health center, hospital clinic, state or local health department, Indian Health Service or tribal program, private dental provider, health system, or a school or national group working on kids’ oral health) and must apply when and how the Secretary asks. Grant money must be used to run and show whether the research-based cavity-management activities work. The Secretary should use what grantees learn, when useful, to help plan and run federal oral health education and dental health programs.
