The Secretary must, with the National Vaccine Program Director and NIH institute directors, carry out activities under the global Children’s Vaccine Initiative to develop affordable vaccines for the U.S. and developing countries. When practical, these vaccines should need fewer doses, work early and long, avoid refrigeration and needles, and cover more diseases.
