Directors of the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases, the National Institute on Aging, the National Institute of Dental Research, and the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases must expand and strengthen research and related work on osteoporosis, Paget’s disease, and other bone disorders. They must coordinate their efforts and consult with the Arthritis and Musculoskeletal Diseases Interagency Coordinating Committee and the Interagency Task Force on Aging Research. The Director of NIH must set up an information clearinghouse to share clear, useful information about osteoporosis and related bone disorders with health professionals, patients, and the public. To do this, the NIH Director must use a grant, cooperative agreement, or contract with a nonprofit private group that works on preventing and controlling these bone disorders.
