§285a–1 Cancer Control Programs

Summary

The Institute Director must set up and fund programs to find, diagnose, prevent, treat, and help people recover from cancer, and to offer counseling. These programs must include local education and demonstration projects and regional networks to share research and information about finding and treating cancer, ongoing care for patients and their families, and rehabilitation and counseling. They must also teach health students and workers better ways to prevent and detect cancer early, to spot people at high risk, and to refer patients to the right centers. Finally, they must try new ways to give the public clear information about preventing, finding, diagnosing, treating, and controlling cancer and to warn about unapproved or ineffective methods, drugs, and devices.
