The Director of the Institute must create three national data systems and matching information clearinghouses — one for diabetes, one for digestive diseases, and one for kidney and urologic diseases. Each data system must collect, store, study, access, and share health data from patients and, when possible, include general population data to help find people who are at risk. Each clearinghouse must gather and share clear information so health professionals, patients, and the public can better understand these diseases.
