§285e–8 Dissemination Project

Summary

The Director of the Institute must give a grant or sign a contract with a national group that represents people with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. That group must set up a central computerized system to collect and share information about state, local, and private programs and services. It must also turn scientific and technical information into plain language and provide it on request. The group must run a national toll‑free phone line that gives that information and details about Federal programs, services, and benefits for people with Alzheimer’s and their families. The group may charge reasonable fees for information provided by the toll‑free line, but it can waive fees for people or groups who cannot pay. To get the grant or contract, the group must apply and show it has a network to gather needed information, prove that by the end of fiscal year 1991 it will be able to carry out these activities without Federal funding, and provide any other information the Director requires.
