It is illegal to knowingly lie or hide important facts when trying to get payments a State gets under a federal program for items or services. If you know about something that changes your right to those payments, you cannot hide it to get money you are not allowed to get or to get more than you should. Each offense can bring a fine under Title 18, up to 5 years in prison, or both.
