Defines key words used in the subchapter. Board means the Legal Services Corporation’s board of directors. Corporation means the Legal Services Corporation itself. Eligible client means someone who cannot afford legal help. Governor means a State’s chief executive. Legal assistance means legal services that fit the subchapter’s purposes. Recipient means a grantee, contractee, or financial-assistance recipient described in clause (A) of section 2996e(a)(1). Staff attorney means a lawyer who gets over half of their yearly professional pay from a recipient organized only to help eligible clients. State means any U.S. state or these territories: the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, Guam, American Samoa, the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands, and any other U.S. territory or possession.
