Title 42 › CHAPTER 6A — PUBLIC HEALTH SERVICE › SUBCHAPTER VII — AGENCY FOR HEALTHCARE RESEARCH AND QUALITY › Part E — General Provisions › § 299c–2
The Director must create standard ways to develop and collect data for the Agency under section 299(b). Those standards must take into account other federal health data rules and the different kinds of health plans, delivery systems, and providers. If a standard could affect how other HHS programs run, including programs under title XVIII, XIX, or XXI of the Social Security Act, or affect health information covered by part C of title XI, the Director must send it to the Secretary as a recommendation. The Director must make sure the statistics and analyses are high quality, timely, complete, specific, and well-analyzed and indexed, and must publish and share them as widely as practical. If a public or private group asks, the Director may do or support research or analysis and charge the group for the cost; the money received can be used by the Director until spent.
