Pay for research that helps turn biomedical discoveries into better patient care. Congress approved $250,000,000 for fiscal year 2000 and whatever sums are needed for 2001–2005; each year add an amount equal to 40 percent of the maximum under section 238j; $50,000,000 for fiscal year 2001 and needed sums for 2002–2005 for activities under section 299a–1; and needed sums for 2006–2010 to carry out part C.
