Title 42 › CHAPTER 6A — PUBLIC HEALTH SERVICE › SUBCHAPTER XII — SAFETY OF PUBLIC WATER SYSTEMS › Part C — Protection of Underground Sources of Drinking Water › § 300h–5
By no later than 18 months after June 19, 1986, the EPA Administrator must change the rules for Class I injection wells to add monitoring methods, including groundwater monitoring, beyond those in place on November 1, 1985. The EPA or a delegated state agency must then decide where and how to use these methods so any fluid moving into or toward underground drinking water is found as early as possible, based on the risk the fluids pose to people or the environment. A "Class I injection well" means what 40 CFR 146.05 said on November 1, 1985.
