§300u–15 Research on Optimizing the Delivery of Public Health Services

Summary

The Secretary of Health and Human Services must fund research, through the CDC, on how to improve public health services and systems. The research must look at proven prevention practices—especially high‑priority topics named in the National Prevention Strategy or Healthy People 2020—and compare community programs for effectiveness and cost. It must study how to move programs from academic to real‑world settings and find better ways to organize, pay for, and deliver public health services, including comparing state and local health departments. The work must be done with the Community Preventive Services Task Force, build on existing federal partnerships, and take state, local, and private initiatives into account. Each year the Secretary must send Congress a report on the research activities and findings.
