The Assistant Secretary must set up a grant program to give money to States (under plans approved under section 3027) so they can run nutrition projects for older adults. Projects must provide at least one home-delivered meal on 5 or more days a week (fewer days can be approved in rural areas if the Assistant Secretary’s rule says 5 days isn’t feasible) and must also offer nutrition education, counseling, and other nutrition services as needed; meals may be hot, cold, frozen, dried, canned, fresh, or include supplemental foods.
