Title 42 › CHAPTER 35 — PROGRAMS FOR OLDER AMERICANS › SUBCHAPTER IV — ACTIVITIES FOR HEALTH, INDEPENDENCE, AND LONGEVITY › Part A — Grant Programs › § 3032b
The Assistant Secretary must give grants to States, area agencies on aging, nonprofit groups, or tribal organizations. The money must pay for local work that stops and responds to elder abuse, neglect, and exploitation, including family violence and sexual assault. Grants can fund outreach to help older victims (including people living in senior housing, nursing homes, board-and-care homes, and senior centers); expand access to shelters and services like mental health care, safety planning, and legal help; allow use of senior housing, hotels, or other places as short-term emergency shelters; and support research on legal, organizational, or training problems that block service delivery. The Assistant Secretary must prefer applicants that can carry out these activities and those under subchapter XI of this chapter. Grantees should coordinate with other area agencies on aging, tribal organizations, State adult protective services, private nonprofits, and other programs funded under subchapter XI.
