Title 42 › CHAPTER 43 — DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES › SUBCHAPTER I — GENERAL PROVISIONS › § 3506a
Scientific meetings attended by HHS scientists, doctors, or other professionals that are directly related to their jobs and the Department’s mission are not treated as “conferences” for federal reporting rules or for travel restrictions based on annual funding laws or OMB M-12-12. Travel to those meetings still must follow normal federal travel rules. Each part of HHS (each operating division) must post an annual report on its website within 90 days after the fiscal year ends. The report must give general meeting info, total money spent, and for any meeting where the division spent more than $30,000, list the amount, location, date, a short note on how it helped the division’s mission, and how many people had travel paid. If spending for a meeting went over $150,000, the report must also explain the special reasons for that cost.
