Title 42 › CHAPTER 63 — LEAD-BASED PAINT POISONING PREVENTION › SUBCHAPTER III — FEDERAL DEMONSTRATION AND RESEARCH PROGRAM: FEDERAL HOUSING ADMINISTRATION REQUIREMENTS › § 4821
The Secretary of Housing and Urban Development must set up and run a research and demonstration program, working with the Secretary of Health and Human Services, to find out how big the problem of lead in paint is—especially in cities—and how to best remove lead hazards from inside homes, on porches, and on outside surfaces where children might be exposed. The Chair of the Consumer Product Safety Commission must study multiple layers of dried paint containing common lead compounds to determine a safe lead level for household paint. By December 31, 1974, the Chair must send Congress a full report with findings, recommendations, and any suggested changes to the law.
