Title 42 › CHAPTER 66 — DOMESTIC VOLUNTEER SERVICES › SUBCHAPTER I — NATIONAL VOLUNTEER ANTIPOVERTY PROGRAMS › Part A — Volunteers in Service to America › § 4958
No more than 30 percent of the money provided under section 5081 may be used each fiscal year, starting with the year that ends on September 30, 1984, to pay the direct costs of supporting volunteers in projects carried out under grants or contracts made under section 5042(12). After December 13, 1979, new projects cannot get those funds unless the grant or contract winner was chosen in a competition that included public notices about the money, the basic rules for choosing recipients, and a description of how to apply and how applications will be reviewed. Each applicant must also clearly name the specific poverty or poverty-related problems the project will address so volunteer assignments will carry out the program’s purpose.
