Title 42 › CHAPTER 71 — SOLAR ENERGY › SUBCHAPTER I — HEATING AND COOLING › § 5509
The Secretary must, using the Director of the National Institute of Standards and Technology and other federal agencies as needed, watch how solar heating and combined solar heating and cooling systems installed in residential dwellings under this subchapter perform. The Secretary must collect and study performance data, carry out investigations, and send special reports to Congress when needed to make sure the programs meet the subchapter’s goals. When making the performance rules and test procedures required by sections 5503, 5504, and 5506, the Secretary must work with scientific, technical, and industry groups and keep ongoing contact with building and technical communities during and after the programs so the expected benefits continue.
