Title 42 › CHAPTER 7 — SOCIAL SECURITY › SUBCHAPTER IV — GRANTS TO STATES FOR AID AND SERVICES TO NEEDY FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN AND FOR CHILD-WELFARE SERVICES › Part B — Child and Family Services › subpart 3 — common provisions › § 629m
The Secretary must make rules, after working with an OMB-led interagency group and listening to State governments, that set data exchange standards. The rules will cover what kinds of information State agencies running approved programs must share electronically with other State agencies and what federal reporting and data exchange must use those standards. The standards must, as much as possible, use open, searchable computer formats (like XML); follow shared interoperable models such as NIEM and relevant Federal financial/contracting standards; follow accounting rules; be cost-effective and improve program performance; and be able to be updated. If a current standard already works well, it does not have to be changed.
