Title 42 › CHAPTER 77 — ENERGY CONSERVATION › SUBCHAPTER III — IMPROVING ENERGY EFFICIENCY › Part F — Energy Conservation Program for Buildings Owned by Units of Local Government and Public Care Institutions › § 6372b
Governors, local governments, and public care institutions can apply to the Secretary for money to do preliminary energy checks or full energy audits of buildings after the Secretary issues the required guidelines. The Secretary can give grants to states, local governments, or institutions to help pay for those audits, and the audits must follow the Secretary’s guidelines. If an entity already did audits that meet or are approved under the guidelines without federal help, the money set aside for this program will be added to that State’s technical assistance funds and is extra. Federal funds cannot pay for more than 50 percent of any audit’s cost, even when combined with other federal money.
