§6617 Coordination with Other Organizations

Summary

The Director must work closely with the Domestic Council, the National Security Council, the Office of Homeland Security, the Council on Environmental Quality, the Council of Economic Advisers, the Office of Management and Budget, the National Science Board, and other federal departments and agencies. The Director must use outside experts and advisory panels and, when possible, consult state and local governments, professional groups, industry, universities, farmers, labor, consumer and conservation groups, and other public-interest organizations and people. He must hold hearings around the country to hear their and the public’s views on national science and technology needs and trends. With permission, he can use the staff, equipment, facilities, and information of public and private groups to avoid duplicating work, and may transfer funds to other Federal agencies to reimburse them. Executive Branch departments, agencies, and instrumentalities, including independent agencies, may give the Director the information he needs. The Administrator of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration may assist the Director, if asked, with activities under paragraph (5) of section 6614(a).
