Title 42 › CHAPTER 7 — SOCIAL SECURITY › SUBCHAPTER IV — GRANTS TO STATES FOR AID AND SERVICES TO NEEDY FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN AND FOR CHILD-WELFARE SERVICES › Part D — Child Support and Establishment of Paternity › § 667
States must set up rules for how much child support should be awarded. The rules can be made by law, judges, or agencies and must be reviewed at least once every 4 years. Judges and other officials must have the rules. Courts should treat the rule amount as correct unless a written or on-the-record finding, based on state criteria, says the rule would be unfair. The federal Secretary will give help, and each state must send copies of its rules to the Secretary.
