Title 42 › CHAPTER 82 — SOLID WASTE DISPOSAL › SUBCHAPTER III — HAZARDOUS WASTE MANAGEMENT › § 6931
The federal government allows grant money to states to help them set up and run hazardous-waste programs. The law sets exact amounts for certain years: $25,000,000 for 1978 and 1979, $20,000,000 for 1980, $35,000,000 for 1981, $40,000,000 for 1982, $55,000,000 for 1985, $60,000,000 for 1986, $60,000,000 for 1987, and $60,000,000 for 1988. The Administrator, after talking with the states, will make rules to divide the money. The rules will consider how much hazardous waste a state handles, how people and the environment are exposed, and other relevant factors. Grants can pay for planning treatment, storage, and disposal sites, and for programs to protect health and the environment at old or inactive hazardous-waste sites.
