Title 42 › CHAPTER 82 — SOLID WASTE DISPOSAL › SUBCHAPTER X — DEMONSTRATION MEDICAL WASTE TRACKING PROGRAM › § 6992b
The Administrator must create rules no later than 6 months after November 1, 1988, to run a tracking program for the medical waste listed in section 6992a in States chosen for a demonstration program. The program must follow waste from the place it’s made to the disposal site (tracking can stop after waste is incinerated), give generators a way to confirm the disposal site received the waste, use the same tracking form in each demonstration State, and require, where practical, that waste be separated when made, put in containers that protect handlers and the public, and be properly labeled. The Administrator may exempt very small generators, but not anyone who makes 50 pounds or more of such waste in any calendar month. At the same time the rules are made, the Administrator must also require generators in demonstration States that burn waste on site and do not use the tracking system to keep records and report the types and amounts they incinerate during the 6 months after the rule takes effect. The rules may differ by kind of waste and by type of generator.
