Title 42 › CHAPTER 84 — DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY › SUBCHAPTER VI — ADMINISTRATIVE PROVISIONS › Part C — General Administrative Provisions › § 7279a
Each year when the President sends his budget to Congress under section 1105(a) of title 31, the Secretary of Energy must also send Congress a future-years energy program. It must cover the budget year and at least the four years after that (a total of five fiscal years). It had to be included starting with the fiscal year 2014 budget and every year after. The program must show estimated spending and requested appropriations for DOE programs, projects, and activities over those five years, with detail like the President’s budget. It must follow high-level, prioritized guidance that matches the administration’s policies and out-year projections and be reviewed by DOE senior leadership. It must also describe expected workload for each DOE national laboratory. The Secretary must make sure the program’s numbers match the totals shown in the President’s budget for each year.
