§7584 Administration and Enforcement as Per California Standards

Summary

When the federal clean-fuel vehicle rules for vehicles of not more than 8,500 lbs. GVWR match California’s Low-Emission Vehicle and Clean Fuels Regulations, the Administrator must run and enforce the federal rules the same way and with the same flexibility California does. The Administrator must follow the same requirements, interpretations, and policy choices (for example certification, production-line testing, and in-use compliance), unless the Administrator decides when making the program rules that doing so would not meet the waiver criteria in section 7543. This does not apply to heavy-duty vehicle standards under section 7585.
