Title 42 › CHAPTER 91 — NATIONAL ENERGY CONSERVATION POLICY › SUBCHAPTER III — FEDERAL ENERGY INITIATIVE › Part B — Federal Energy Management › § 8262j
Make Postal Service buildings follow the federal energy rules in section 8253 as much as possible. The Postmaster General can exclude a building or group of buildings — and their energy use and size — if following the rules would be impractical because the work there uses a lot of energy, the kind or amount of energy is unusual, or the needed changes aren’t technically possible. Any excluded buildings must be listed in the report under section 8262i. Within 1 year after October 24, 1992, the Postmaster General must create or update a plan (it can be part of the first 8262i report) showing how to meet these requirements, naming the people in charge and the top projects. The Postal Service must do energy surveys as needed, install energy-saving measures that are cost-effective under section 8254, and keep using the operation and maintenance practices that make the savings last.
