Title 42 › CHAPTER 91 — NATIONAL ENERGY CONSERVATION POLICY › SUBCHAPTER VII — ENERGY SAVINGS PERFORMANCE CONTRACTS › § 8287d
Starting in fiscal year 1999 and continuing a process begun in fiscal year 1998, the Secretary must accept money from other Federal agencies to help them save energy and money. Agencies may give these funds back after they start seeing energy cost savings. The money can be kept until it is spent. The funds can be used only to help federal buildings and operations become more energy efficient, save water, and use renewable energy through privately financed methods (like energy savings performance contracts and utility incentive programs). The money may pay program costs, including contractor help. Any such privately financed contracts must follow the Energy Policy Act of 1992 (Public Law 102–486).
