Title 42 › CHAPTER 92 — POWERPLANT AND INDUSTRIAL FUEL USE › SUBCHAPTER VII — ADMINISTRATION AND ENFORCEMENT › Part B — Information and Reporting › § 8421
The Secretary can require anyone who owns, runs, or controls an electric power plant, or anyone else covered by this law, to send any reports or information directly to the Secretary. The information must be what the Secretary needs to carry out and enforce this law and any rules or orders under it. Information gathered under this rule is handled the same way as energy information under section 796(d) of title 15 and section 796 of title 15. When the President or the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has duties under this law, the same power applies to them instead of the Secretary. For emergency planning, the Secretary must collect data to find two things: within 6 months after August 13, 1981, how much natural gas each electric utility used as its main energy source in calendar year 1977; and, every six months, how much natural gas each utility used in the prior six-month period.
