§915 Single Point of Contact for Identity Theft Victims

Title 42 › CHAPTER 7 — SOCIAL SECURITY › SUBCHAPTER VII — ADMINISTRATION › § 915

Last updated Oct 17, 2026|Official source

Summary

The head of Social Security must set up a system so people whose Social Security number was misused, whose records at the agency were affected, or whose Social Security card was lost in the mail have one main contact at the agency while the problem is fixed. That contact will follow the case through to the end and work with other parts of the agency to solve issues quickly. The single contact will be a team or small group of trained staff who can coordinate with other units and who stay responsible for the case until it is resolved. Team members can change when needed, but the agency must keep case records continuous and tell the person when appropriate.
